Hurricane season readiness for small Bahamian businesses
A practical checklist for June: documents, power, stock, staff, and the paperwork you will need if you have to claim.
Hurricane season is a business continuity problem before it is a weather problem. The firms that reopen fastest are the ones that prepared in June, not the ones that reacted in September.
Start with documents. Scan your business licence, insurance policy, NIB records, supplier contracts, and asset register, and store a copy off-island or in the cloud. Photograph your premises and equipment while they are intact.
Then plan power, stock, and staff. Know which generator you would rent and from whom, know what stock must move to higher ground, and agree in advance how staff will be contacted and paid if the office closes for a week.
